Our Project
Welcome to the homepage of our DFG project Norms and Nature of Acceptance.
Norms and Nature of Acceptance investigates the philosophy of acceptance.
We take seriously the idea that we can change our minds and make our minds up. Acceptance is part of the active mind – that part of the mind that we control. We can decide to accept a proposition, even if we don’t believe it. Once we accept a proposition, we take it for granted thereafter. This makes acceptance special, as it means we can use acceptance to simplify our reasoning, streamline communication, and plan our mental lives.
Our goal is to establish the central importance of acceptance in major areas of philosophy, including epistemology, mind, language, and action.
